To start, you must sign up for the required pre-licensing education (PE) hours. Depending on your state, you may need additional state-specific hours. Some states require your PE hours to be completed within the last 3-10 years from the date of your application for licensure.
Once you’ve completed the required hours and reported them to the NMLS, you’ll be eligible to sign up for the licensing exam.
After passing the exam and having your results recorded with the NMLS, you can apply for your state license. During this step, you’ll also need to schedule fingerprinting, a Federal background check, and a credit check. If you don’t pass the test on your first attempt, you can retake it after 30 days. At this point, ALCOVA Mortgage can sponsor your license for your state.
Once all documentation and requirements are completed, your state will review your application. In most cases, approval takes between 2-4 weeks.
While we’ve listed two approved providers below, you’re free to choose from any NMLS-approved provider that suits your needs.
